Dec 2019

2019 has been a year of activities and people, blessings and brokenness, transitions and transformation, joys and pains, opportunities and challenges for SBC and for all of us. Yet I see one constant in a year of changes: the Sovereign LORD is with us!

So we declare with the psalmist in Ps 73:

But as for me,?it is good to be near God.

I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;

I will tell of all your deeds.

Yet I am always with you;

you hold me by my right hand.

You guide me with your counsel,

and afterward you will take me into glory.

Whom have I in heaven but you?

And earth has nothing I desire besides you.

My flesh and my heart may fail,

but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

At the dawning of the new year, may our prayer then be:

Heart of my own heart, whatever befalls

Still be my Vision, O Ruler of all.

A New Year Prayer

Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart;

Naught be all else to me, save that thou art –

Thou my best thought, by day or by night;

Waking or sleeping, thy presence my light.

Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word;

I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord.

Thou my great Father; thine own may I be,

Thou in me dwelling and I one with thee.

Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise;

Thou mine inheritance, now and always;

Thou and thou only first in my heart,

High King of heaven, my treasure thou art.

High King of heaven, my victory won,

May I reach heaven’s joys, O bright heaven’s sun!

Heart of my own heart, whatever befall,

Still be my vision, O Ruler of all.

It is my joy to announce that Dr Violet James will serve as the SBC alumni advisor starting 2020. Her main ministry will be that of offering pastoral care and spiritual guidance to alumni, and minister to graduating students as she journeys with them in prayer.
