BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Dr Myrleene Grace Yap (ҶĽÁ鲩ʿ) is an Associate Professor of Church Music and Worship. She joined the School of Church Music faculty in July 2006 and served as the Field Education Director from 2008 to 2017. She was also the Academic Dean for eight years from July 2012 to June 2020.

The Lord called her to ¡°train the trainers¡± (2 Tim. 2:2) and to ¡°teach them everything [the Lord has] commanded¡± (Matt 28:19-20). He equipped her to this end through her ministries as music, worship, and youth pastor at Davao Evangelical Church, Philippines, for seven years, and in various ministry positions in Philippines, Texas, and Singapore.

By God¡¯s grace, the Lord is using her to teach future music and worship pastors, seminary church music faculty, and denominational leaders from over ten nations various worship and music ministry courses to become adaptable pastor-musicians. She regularly teaches, preaches, and leads worship in international, national, and denominational church music and worship conferences, symposiums, consultations, workshops, and seminaries in Asia. In her teaching ministries, she is passionate about teaching the Word, showing that worship and music ministry is more than just about music, but about disciple-making, pointing people back to the Lord, and helping them to respond to Him through music and other resources. She seeks to point people back to the Lord, help music/worship leaders be spiritual leaders to the people God entrusted to their care, and guide churches who are ready to realign their music and worship ministries to God¡¯s kingdom purposes.

Seeing the need of Asian churches for resources, Dr Yap is a co-editor and co-compiler of two bilingual choral collections: Doxa: Christian Choral Music Series and Where Two or Three Parts Are Gathered. She designs special services, hymn festivals, and concert programs for churches. She helps churches in Indonesia and Philippines as worship and music ministry consultant. She also writes CD reviews for Impact Magazine.

Dr Yap is a member of Mt. Carmel Bible Presbyterian Church and Davao Evangelical Church.
