Ellen started volunteering in her youth by giving tuition to lower income children and organised activities, games, and camps for children during the school holidays. Though she started out in the corporate sector, God opened the doors for her training as a counsellor and to graduate from Singapore Bible College in 2015.
As a Master Clinical Member, Registered Counsellor, and Registered Clinical Supervisor of the Singapore Association for Counselling, she has prior counselling experiences in the university, community, and healthcare settings, and has journeyed with clients of various ages as they faced interpersonal relationship issues, stress, depression, anxiety, grief, and traumatic or difficult childhood experiences. She was awarded Singapore’s Covid-19 Resilience Medal for her contribution in the national fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. Apart from supporting students for their applied research and in conducting qualitative studies, she also provided casework and counselling supervision for counsellors and case workers in the community.
Ellen has conducted training at various tertiary institutions on managing transitions, emotional resilience, crisis and stress management, and peer support. Beyond Singapore, she has conducted workshops and talks in Asian countries such as India, Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia to empower the locals there on parenting, self-esteem, and mental health. She is currently pursuing her professional doctorate in counselling with Keele University, UK, to add on to knowledge and skills.
