The purpose of this introductory course is to equip you to preach expository sermons. As the title implies, we will do so by sharpening the communication skills and deepening the attitudes and philosophy towards preaching. Borrowing from Haddon Robinson’s seminal homiletic book, Biblical Preaching, this 16-hours course will build upon Robinson’s “Big Idea” homiletics model to help you step-by-step to produce a sermon that is clear, cogent and consistent with what the Text says. You will also be resourced with materials to build your sermons and get a 2-hours one-on-one coaching. Budding preachers and seasoned heralds who need a refresher will benefit from this course.
Rev Dr Desmond Soh is an ordained minister of the Gospel and pastors Bethany Evangelical Free Church. Until recently, he was also the Associate Professor of Homiletics and Intercultural Studies, as well as the Senior Director of Strategic Development at Singapore Bible College. Desmond served as a missionary and tentmaker in Indonesia with his wife Wendy for almost a decade. They have a dog called Cinta (love), and are into fostering children, and training faithful servants of Jesus Christ. He loves coffee, chocolates and conversations with fellow heralds.

In learning about the impact of abuse, participants will become trauma-informed and explore several recovery pathways from a psychological, biblical and theological perspective. Participants will learn practical skills needed for helpful pastoral responses to those who have been abused, are experiencing trauma and to those who abuse others.?

Christians in the first few hundred years encountered many challenges. These believers were thrust outside of Jerusalem because of persecution. False teachings also challenged the early Christians, especially that of the Person and Work of Jesus Christ. As Christ is central to the teachings of the Christian faith, doctrinal statements based on Scripture were taught to every believer. These statements were given in a creedal formula (“I Believe…”) so that these people who could not read and write could memorize these truths and be able to combat erroneous teachings. Join us for 4 Saturday mornings for some hearty conversations and interactions!

What does it mean to lead the “Church In Exile”? What is God’s unchanging mandate for leaders? What are the dynamics of inner spiritual growth? Often the measure of the leaders’ successful life and function are the outcomes of their key performance indicators, usually gauged by external metrics. Such “systems of measurement” usually fall short of what God may actually want from us. What has been left out is the vital metrics of inner life.?
