Greek II is the second of a two-part series in basic Biblical Greek. The method employed is a combination of deductive and inductive methods in teaching languages. Students will learn diagramming and continue translating verses from New Testament texts, with special emphasis on the syntax and semantics of the text.
Building upon the foundations laid in Biblical Hebrew I, this course uses both inductive and deductive methods to help students learn the derived verbal stems, including both strong and weak verbs. In addition, through a study of various narrative texts, students will gain competence in reading, translating, and parsing Hebrew texts.
This course explores the different ways Christians can meaningfully understand the relationship between the Gospel, Church and Culture. Students will be exposed to ‘worldview thinking’ to appreciate “cultural conditioning” of “belief” and “behaviour” and discuss specifically what this means for the church and its mission in Asia.
This is the last of three courses which covers the ministry and the message of the writing prophets. It presents the multifaceted ministries of the Old Testament prophets. By examining critical passages and the unfolding of broader theological developments within the different prophetic genres, students develop an appreciation for how these servants of God shaped their history and the future hope of the Old Testament covenant community.
This course provides a broad overview of the mission of God (missio Dei) and of His Kingdom and equipped to think and evaluate critically how this mission defines life, community, ministry, and the world. It is divided into three components: (1) a broad, scripturally informed theology of mission; (2) a survey of important historical developments and milestones in cross-cultural missions, with particular focus on Asia; and (3) an introduction to cultural exegesis via social-science methods, drawing from cultural anthropology and sociology.
This course provides instruction in the crafting of expository sermons through the expositional process of exegesis, theology and homiletics. Attention is given to the strategic use of rhetorical argumentation, manuscripting (style and clarity) and the preaching of two sermons (an epistle and an OT narrative).
This course for graduating MDiv students highlights socio-cultural phenomena and issues that have both global as well as local impact on society, church, and home. It seeks to offer informed and integrated responses to these issues by examining them with multidisciplinary lenses in the different settings and contexts that they are situated in.
