We thank God for?Love Singapore which prepares a?40 Day Prayer?for Christians in Singapore every year culminating with Singapore’s National Day celebrations!
What a privilege to pray for the nation?– its political, economic, social & spiritual well-being; the salvation of non-believers – family, friends & community; the revival of the Church of Jesus Christ – in Singapore & the regions beyond; our own personal renewal – to align with God’s ways & resonant with His heartbeat.
Are 40 out of 365 days enough? Should not prayer dominate our life every day?
Jesus rebuked the religious leaders in Jerusalem and overturned the tables of the money changers (Matthew 21:13) and quoted from Isaiah –?for my house shall be called a house of prayer?(Isaiah 56:7)! In the New Testament, God’s house implies God’s people – the?ecclesia?– the?called-out ones! We are called to be people of prayer and our whole life must be characterized by prayer –?prayer for everything because without God the Holy Spirit, you and I cannot do anything of significance!
The Great Commission given by Jesus Christ is binding on all believers –?Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. (Matthew 28:19-20). Jesus also said,?and this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.?(Matthew 24:14). Evangelism and missions are linked to the return of Jesus Christ! This can only be accomplished through intercessory & persistent prayer! In carrying out the mandate of Jesus Christ and as we continue to work and live on this earth, we can only do so with God’s presence, his provision, his protection and his enabling power. We must pray all kinds of prayers, without ceasing, and do the things that please our Lord, through Christ Jesus who strengthens us!
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints… Ephesians 6:18 (ESV)
